What You'll Learn

Throughout the workshop we will go deep into the fundamentals of ROS2, and build on top of that to create an autonomous vehicle that uses lidar as its main sensor.

Lidar Technology Fundamentals

Understand how Lidar works and its crucial role in enabling autonomous vehicles to perceive their environment accurately.

Coordinate Systems

Learn to work with various coordinate systems essential for processing Lidar data and mapping real-world spaces.

Localization and Mapping

Master techniques to determine a robot's position and build maps of the environment simultaneously

Robot Operating System (ROS2)

Gain hands-on experience with Basic ROS, integrating Lidar data into a robust framework for autonomous control.

Enhancing decision-making processes with cutting-edge technology and techniques.

Pre-Requisite !!

This is NOT a course for beginners and some basic python knowledge is needed. Also you will be required to work on these tasks on your own computer that must meet certain standards in order to run the simulation software. We can provide virtual machines at extra costs for this.

Basic Python

You'll need to have a foundational understanding of Python to ensure you can follow along with the coding aspects of the workshop. You should aim to get a score of > 80% In this test

Basic Bash

You'll need to know how to run basic bash commands to ensure you can follow along with the coding aspects of the workshop. If you can easily complete every question In this test

Basic Math

High school-level math is sufficient, and the course will help refresh your memory with the relevant topics along the way.

Online Session

Day 1 – Online Session

    • Setup your local computer with ROS2 and the simulation environment

  • Complete tasks in your own time
  • Learn basic ROS concepts through given tasks

Online Session

Day 1 – Online Session

  • Lean about methods of perceptions
    • Lidar data and filtering
  • Localization and Mapping
    • SLAM
    • Odometry
  • Lean methods of control
    • Control methods such as PID and gain scheduling and MPC
  • Fire up the gazebo simulator
    • Learn the simulator

Practical On-Site Workshop

Day 1 – Final day on-site

  • Meet and greet your fellow students and get acquainted
  • Setup the networking to the physical car
  • Have time to practice the algorithms developed in simulation
  • Take place in a friendly races and time trials to compare different algorithms and techniques
  • Time for networking and collaboration
